Digging on curiosity and science.

Under the theme “Producing differently, innovating in the semi-arid grassland” La Pampa’s Ministry of Production carried out a field trip in the Department of Loventué.

The Pichi Cahuel Establishment, owned by María del Carmen Viniegra, hosted the conference on innovation in semi-arid grassland, carried out by the Ministry of Production through the Directorates of Livestock and Natural Resources, the Pampa Gestión Group, with the collaboration of INTA through the Victorica Agency.

Minister, Fernanda González, the directors, Carlos Bonnemezón and Marcelo Lluch, and the deputy director of Fauna, Federico Pellizari and the director of INTA Anguil, Daniel Funaro and technicians from the different areas of the Ministry participated. In turn, several related companies joined this day, as well as the Municipality of Victorica, Victorica Firefighters, Civil Defense, Veterinary Medical College, UNLPam’s Faculty of Agronomy and the Rural Association of the West Pampean.

In the theoretical development of the day, Víctor García Viniegra, administrator and member of the company Pampa Gestión together with Carla Roveglia, were in charge of the presentation of the Establishment and the work carried out, as well as the evaluation of forage production, livestock management and the verification of results. The forage measurements were presented by INTA’s technicians, Sol Poey and Rocío Kerleng. For his part, the director of Livestock provided provincial livestock data in general and the Loventué department in particular.

Completing the meeting, a field tour was carried out showing the work done and the results obtained, moderated by the Pampa Gestión group, to culminate with a round of exchange of experiences among those present.

Fernanda González thanked the hosts for having their establishment available to carry out this day. And highlighted the synergy between the public and private sectors, “which is very important for us and for the producers as well, so that they can show what they do, and so that they themselves are the ones who take advantage of these spaces, to comment on what they are doing and learn from successes and mistakes.”

She emphasized that “after two years it is very important that this establishment has this type of management in place and that they can show the progress and results that were obtained, as well as the work of many years in the identification and management of pastures, together with INTA of Victorica.”

González presented the entire technical team of the Ministry and make herself available for consultations that arise on forest management, livestock plan, as well as financing. Thanked INTA for its presence and highlighted the importance of having the agencies in the territory, as well as all the companies that joined this event and made their respective contributions. She also highlighted the presence of the institutions that where there.

The host Eng. García Viniegra, meanwhile, commented that in principle “we showed in the theoretical talk how through process technologies and information management really impressive results are achieved. If we compare ourselves with the average producer in the area and we are producing approximately 100 kg more meat for each cow in the field and 15 kg more meat per hectare.”

He also highlighted the articulation between the private and public parts “which we organized with the Ministry and INTA, especially to show what went well and what went wrong, we contributed a grain of sand.” Given this, “we were surprised by the call, although we knew about the repercussion, the number of people who were convened here today is striking,” thanking all the companies and institutions that accompanied the initiative.

Finally, from INTA, Funaro highlighted the data presented “since it is a whole work of successes and errors over the years and the most important thing,” he said, “is the exchange in this type of meeting.”
