A study carried out by the group of FIL’s Molecular and Cellular Microbiology Laboratory characterized the role of two new Brucella proteins that, by detecting the presence of iron and manganese inside the cells of the organism that they invade, ’turn off’ the genes that until then allowed them to survive natural defenses. Thus, the bacterium optimizes the use of its energy to consolidate its replication.
